05/14/2021 | by Lyles Armour | Estes Park Vacation Rentals

It’s easy to plan an affordable trip to Estes Park when you stay at Rocky Mountain Resorts and take advantage of these free activities and events.

Visit during fee-free days at Rocky Mountain National Park

The National Park Service offers several free days or weekends throughout the year, normally connected to a federal holiday, where you can visit Rocky Mountain National Park for free! The summer months tend to be busier anyway, so your best bet is the early spring or winter fee-free days. While the dates vary every year, you can count on them being around the similar holidays and events listed below:

2021 Fee-free days

  • January 18 – Martin Luther King, J. Day
  • April 17 – First day of National Park Week
  • August 4 -Great American Outdoors Act Anniversary
  • August 25 – National Park Service Birthday
  • September 25 – National Public Lands Day
  • November 11 – Veterans Day

While you’re in the park, free activities you can enjoy include, hiking, wildlife viewing, and taking in the gorgeous scenes as you drive Trail Ridge Road. You might want to pack an affordable lunch for a fun picnic in the park!

Attend First Friday Art Groove

First Friday Art Groove is a favorite amongst locals and tourists alike. Every first Friday of the month, participating galleries will feature food and drinks, plus a chance to meet the artists and enjoy live demonstrations. It’s free to attend and makes for a fun Friday evening with the entire family.

Walk or bike around Lake Estes

Enjoy a leisurely walk or bike ride around Lake Estes. The 3.73-mile path follows the perimeter of the lake allowing for beautiful mountain views and chances to see wildlife. If you want to get out on the water, you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, and stand-up paddleboards from the Lake Estes Marina for an affordable rate!

Spend the day at Stanley Park

Stanley Park recently opened its bike park. Bikers will enjoy skilled loops, ranging from beginner to advanced. There are dirt and paved sections, plus a single-track dirt trail that runs 1.25 miles, connecting the different courses. Beyond the bike park, visitors will also enjoy a playground, baseball and soccer fields, plus tennis courts. The park is free to the public.
